In Term 4 we will got to Deal Castle and we are very excited. In English we will be reading "Rapunzel" and other traditional tales, which will link well with our topic of "Kings, Queens and Castles."  In maths, we will be learning about place value with numbers to 50, weight and capacity.

We made numbers up to 100 with dienes.

Poet James Carter came to visit us and we wrote ‘Crazy Creatures Crew’.

In Term 3 we are learning about addition & subtraction and height and length. In English we are writing Diary entries and recounts based on the books ‘The Lonely Beast’, ‘The Snow Beast’ and ‘The Brave Beast’. The children will go on a noun hunt too. In Topic we are learning about explorers and the children are very excited about eating porridge on our Wow day. We will pitch a tent and will catch some fish! The children will make jam for our Valentine’s Event and we look forward to inviting our loved ones into our classrooms on Thursday, 13th February.

We measured objects found in our classroom and ordered them from shortest to tallest.

Some pictures of our Valentine Event.

…Picasso Rocks!

In Term 2 we are learning about addition & subtraction, place value and shape. In English we are reading information books and we are linking our learning to the books ‘Pumpkin Soup, ‘Hovis the hedgehog’ and ‘Babushka’. In Topic we are learning about dinosaurs. Mr Webber, our site manager, found a dinosaur egg in the boiler room and we discovered foot prints in the car park.

We compared a day at ‘Horsted School’ to a day at’ Koningin Juliana School’ (our Dutch partner school. We made a bar graph, to compare how we travel to school. Please take a look at our PowerPoints to see for yourselves.

In Maths (Term 1) we will be learning about 2D shapes, Place value, one more, one less, sorting shapes, counting objects, representing objects, counting and writing & reading numbers, comparing groups, inequality symbols, ordinal numbers and number lines.

In English (Term 1) we will be reading the Alfie and Annie Rose stories by Shirley Hughes and “Funnybones” by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We be practising writing short words and labels as well as whole sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Our handwriting will be practising the cursive formation of c, a, g, q and d.

In our topic All about Me, we will make a time capsule of things about ourselves now, then we will open it at the end of year 1 to see how we have grown and developed. We will learn about our body and the names of our bones and body parts, as well carrying out activities to help us understand our five senses. Finally we will look at our local area, draw a map and go for a walk around it.

We had great fun in our Maths lessons making inequality symbols (crocodile mouths). Here are some photographs of us learning about inequality symbols.
