Term One
Welcome to Year Two. Please check in here regularly to see what we are up to in Year 2. We cant wait to show you all our fantastic things going on!
Tyland Barn
We had our first trip of the year to Tyland Barn. In science the children have been learning about living things and their habitats. At Tyland Barn we were able to explore a range of micro habitats from logs, grass areas, composts, leaf piles to the habitat under the water in their pond. The children identified different animals, discussed their body parts, foods they might eat, and why they are suited to the habitats that they were found. Take a look at our photos taken of the day!
RSHE
In our RSHE lessons we have been learning about our feelings and how to take control of them.
Term Two
Design Technology
Can you design a chair for Baby Bear?
We looked at different structures and decided what makes a structure stable.
We then made a chair for our favourite bear.
Care Home Visit
All the children in Year two made a Christmas card for the residents of Barchester - Friston House Care Home. 8 of our children were lucky to go and personally take these cards to them.
Term Three
Geography
As part of our Geography - Why is our world wonderful? We went to the local field to explore the wildlife living there. We enjoyed identifying different plants and animals.
Art
Our Art this term is exploring colour and texture. The children began the unit by recalling their primary and secondary colours. They then explored the shades of different colours that can be created by mixing primary colours.
We then began exploring textrure. We searched our environment for different textures and then tried to recreate these using our observational and stretching skills. After we searched the classroom for objects that could be used to help us create texture in paint. We found lego, forks, scrunched up foil and cotton buds were great to name just a few.
Finally, we used the paper that we had added texture to, to create a collage of Rochester castle in the style of Romare Bearden.
